The unfortunate truth
The truth is, our spines are under pressure from day 1. The forces that conspire to debilitate us begin the second we are subjected to gravity’s downward force. That’s why we preach and practice chiropractic for everyone, including infants. But the larger -scale demographic trends of back pain are also concerning. Let’s examine this statement, “never too young for back pain,” in a little more depth
Our lifestyles have also led us here.
It is a sad reality that lower back pain in kids and teens is on the rise. But with less active lifestyles, more time spent inside on electronics, young spines are not getting the chance to develop properly. More sitting, less exercise, poor diets and lack of attention to spinal development are extreme hindrances to overall wellbeing and set our youngsters up for a lifetime of back problems.
Even if we accept that almost everyone experiences back pain at some point in their lifetime, we shouldn’t accept back pain as a regular occurrence in young spines.
So what is the solution?
The solution is paying attention to the problem and then acting on it. Children of every age should receive regular checkups with spinal health care specialists to ensure that their spines are developing properly. Lifestyles should be closely monitored to ensure that they are getting the proper inputs of diet and exercise. Screen time should be limited as much as possible.
